Movie
In 1994, the University of California at San Diego produced a biographical
movie on Walter Munk. The movie, which was posted on youtube.com, includes
considerable material on the Heard Island Feasibility Test. The movie is
included here for convenience. It is entitled "One Man's Noise," after
the well-known scientific expression "One man's noise is another man's
signal." (The expression means that sometimes curious features appearing
in scientific data are ignored by some researchers as "noise", or meaningless
static, while others working with the same data will obtain important
scientific discoveries from such "noise".) The movie is in "flv" format
(free viewers are available for this newer movie format; most flash players
will work, I believe) and is about 65 MB in size. It takes about a half
hour to view. Its resolution is standard TV, or about 400×300.
