Graphics - Manipulating Pictures

When you can see the whole picture, we can see about cropping it. Crop means to "cut off". Often, picture have more in them than we want to focus on. Cropping out the extraneous parts can make for a better picture. Most pictures can benefit from cropping unless they were taken by a professional photographer (and even then, pros crop their shots). Let's look at an example of cropping.

With the picture at 25% zoom, click on the cropping tool (dotted box).

Then click and drag a box over the part of the picture you want to keep.

Here, I have selected a part of the picture from the center of the picture to crop out. Use the Image menu and choose Crop.

You may simply click on OK to immediately crop the picture. Try out the other options for yourself to see what they do.

Here is the cropped picture zoomed at 25%.

Here is the cropped picture at 100%.

You can get creative with your cropping. For instance, you can create a very long narrow crop of the mountains and have this:

 

Or, you can crop a tall narrow piece and have this:
