Transportation - UW Fleet

The UW fleet includes all vehicles owned by the campus such as cars, trucks, and carts. The UW Sustainability Booklet describes numerous ways Fleet Service is working to make its practices low-impact:

The graph below shows fuel consumption by Fleet vehicles. Our goal is to increase fuel efficiency for every mile traveled, but we don't necessarily want to reduce use of the fleet since it may represent a less impactful form of transportation than use of personal vehicles.

These include:

4 100% electric vehicles

46 fueled with biodiesel

59 are gas-electric hybrid vehicles

3 are plug-in hybrid vehicles

What you can do:

If you are a student, faculty or staff member conducting UW business, you can rent UW Fleet or U-CAR vehicles (Fleet vehicles available for hourly rentals). Using a fleet vehicle rather than a personal vehicle can be more sustainable since many Fleet vehicles are highly efficient and they don't require you to bring your own vehicle from home to campus for trips that originate from campus.
