In 2010, UW was rated 4th in the nation for LEED projects in higher education institutions: http://greenbuildconsult.com/pdfs/higher-ed.pdf This report was released by Jerry Yudelson, the US Green Bbuilding Council’s international conference director for GreenBuild each year.
The first UW building to receive LEED certification was Merrill Hall (September, 2005). As of July, 2010, 11 buildings have been certified and 8 additional projects are pending certification. By square goot, 12.5% of UW buildings space now falls into LEED certified or LEED pending certification categories as shown in the graph below:

Academics
CBE: College of Built Environments combines architecture, construction management, landscape architecture, urban design and planning, and real estate.
Research groups related to sustainability include:
- Green Futures Research & Design Lab
- Urban Ecology Research Laboratory
- Integrated Design Laboratory (developed to provide sustainable design technical assistance to regional architectural design teams)
