Creating Folders on Server Based Web Sites with Simple Site |

The University of Washington offers a tool called Simple Site to help you create and manage web sites on your web site area. Simple Site creates web pages directly on the web site as opposed to SSH. In SSH you must create the pages first and then upload them to the web server. To get started with Simple Site go to the Catalyst Web Tools area. The address is http://catalyst.washington.edu. Choose Web Tools and then choose Simple Site. Going to the Simple Site main page will display:
Log in using your NetID. The next screen will ask you to choose which site you want to work on. Your web site should show up in the dropdown list. Choose your web site and leave the Work site option as "Work on this web site".
You should now be at the page below. Here you can create new folders.
Here, the diagram displays creating a new folder called template. Note the "Location on your Web site" is set to public_html. Public_html is the main folder that holds all your web pages on the UW web server. This means that the new folders will be created in that folder. |
