A Message from Scott

SDS Staff,

I was delighted that so many of you were able to share the day with us to learn more about our vision for Service Delivery & Support, and to help build and energize the team to realize our goals.

The investment in engaging in this process is so key to our mutual success, and ultimately the continued success of Computing & Communications.

Your time, attention, and active participation were very much appreciated. The energy, both in the morning and afternoon, are wonderful things that we can reflect upon and draw from as we continue down this journey of adaptive work. You are so much a part of how we will achieve our goals, and I am so proud to have the opportunity to work with all of you (and now I know all of your faces and names).

- Scott

Motivation in the A.M.

Hearing from SDS Directors aka "The Big Four"

Other Agenda Items
Guest speaker, Sue Ershler, gave an inspiring talk on how projection, preparation, and perseverance could help us all accomplish our goals. Sue and her husband reached their goal of climbing the highest mountain peak on all seven continents. Scott invited questions and comments, and Vernon Wells dove right in. His comments on the direction C&C is headed were positive. "Though the re-orgs have been frustrating at times," he said, "these changes have helped break down walls between groups, teams, committees...." He feels that C&C leadership encourages communication and collegiality. This environment discourages the formality that sometimes can exists between staff and management and makes managers very approachable. Thomas Nash, at right, asked how the culture of service espoused by the strategic plan would be implemented to insure it reached the customer. Thomas, a new staff member on Sean Vaughan's network team, cut right to the quick.

Picnic in the P.M.

Is it true you can always count on SDS staff to pitch in, no matter what the occasion? From the looks of these four, I'd say the answer must be yes! Tod Carlson warmed up his pitching arm; Zach Tang looked for a wide receiver; Anne Brannan used a frisbee to demonstrate her athletic prowess; and Jim Vane pitched horseshoes with as much concentration as you could ask for!

Lynetta Holifield and Art Dong both look a little puzzled when it came to identifying staff based on the clues found on the SDS Bingo Card. Achara Supaphakorn cut straight to the chase and preferred identifying the prizes and forgetting the game. The game winners are not in these photos --too busy collecting staff signatures and filling up their bingo cards. Here is the game card - see how well you know your fellow staff.

Talk about a Culture of Service! Even on their day out for a picnic in the park, SDS staff think of the customer first and bring along a mobile office so they'll always be just a keystroke away from wherever their expertise is needed. You can see that Daniel Schwalbe, Deb Verginia, Marcus Hirsch, Toby Wood, and Kay Lutz are also conversant with the culture of 'making work fun is the only way to go.'
