Welcome to College Strategies 101 This is a course with an innovative approach to learning! Much of this course is designed to offer you the opportunity to engage in challenging intellectual material. Being in college identifies you as a scholar. Effective scholarship requires much tenacity in pursuit of questions and critical assessment of the “known." In this section of College Strategies 101, I will view you as a scholar in search questions about yourself and your world. Together, we will integrate an important piece of American literature, Invisible Man with other core learning outcomes of this class. Our discussions and reflections will explore many debatable social and cultural themes from an African-American man’s perspective in the 1930’s. These discussions and reflections are appropriate and applicable to current social and cultural challenges we continue to face in society today. The topics are emotionally challenging, intellectually challenging, and require maturity, compassion and respect for the differences in us all. This class will also offer you the opportunity to work in a group on a creative research project of your choice as it relates to the class. Further, you will be introduced to many campus resources available to Cascadia students. |
