SSL provides an excellent mechanism for communications applications requiring secure and encrypted channels. There are some issues related to SSL implementation and use in web browsers that are of concern. For example browser caching of password information can limit the usefulness of SSL if a workstation is not secure or is used by a number of users. SSL was originally architected by Netscape but later placed in the public domain.
