Z viewing tips

Back to Z examples

The Z examples pages look best when this \power and this X are about the same size: \power X.

(They look alright if the X is a bit smaller, but they look terrible if it is larger. They look ghastly if the X is so large it seems to be in bold).

The Z symbols such as \power are tiny images whose size cannot be changed. Z variables such as X are text whose size may be adjustable.

If the X is not the same size as the \power already, you can try adjusting your browser settings now.

If you are still unable to change the size of the Z text, or you would like to change other aspects of the appearance of these pages, you may wish to try setting up your own stylesheet.

Changing font size in Internet Explorer

At the top of the browser window there is a menu bar with entries File Edit View etc. Click on View. A menu drops down. Move the cursor over Text Size (if there is no such entry, try Fonts). Another menu drops down. Click on a likely font size, try Smaller first. Now look at the \power X again. If they are still not the same size, try another.

Changing font size in Netscape

At the top of the browser window there is a menu bar with entries File Edit View etc. Click on View. Look for the entries Increase Font and Decrease Font. Click on the appropriate one. Now look at the \power X again. If they are still not the same size, try another.

If there is no Increase Font etc. under View, Click on Edit. A menu drops down. Click on Preferences. The Preferences window appears. On the left there is a menu labelled Category. Under Appearance, click on Fonts.

The Fonts panel appears on the right side of the window. There is a caption Variable Width Font by a button that shows a font name (usually Times). There is a caption Size by a button that shows a text size (usually 12.0). Click on the button. A menu of font sizes appears. Click on a likely font size, try 14.0 first. Click on the OK button in the lower left corner of the Preferences window. The window disappears. Now look at the \power X again. If they are still not the same size, try another.

Printing and saving pages

You can print and save these pages from your browser's File menu.

The Z symbols will appear correctly in the printed output. However, some browser versions do not print the vertical line at the left edge of the Z boxes. They also do not print the complete horizontal line between the declaration and predicate parts, instead they print two separate horizontal lines with a gap in the middle. (There are no plans to fix this).

Some browser versions do not apply stylesheet rules to the printed output, even though they do apply them in the browser display.
