Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
1 c. butter flavored Crisco (or 1/2 c. softened butter and 1/2 c. butter flavored Crisco)
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 beaten egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Beat the shortening and sugar until creamy. Blend in salt, vanilla, and egg. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, and baking powder.
Form balls about the size of large walnuts and place on ungreased cookie sheet; press down in a criss-cross manner with a fork dipped in sugar. Bake at 375 for about 8 minutes. For chewy cookies, remove when the bottom of the cookie is just barely golden.
