Everyone's Favorite Gingerbread

Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 cup dark molasses
1 cup water, boiling
2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch baking pan.
In a bowl beat shortening, sugar, and egg with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Blend in molasses and boiling water.
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, and cinnamon. Stir into the creamed mixture. Beat until thoroughly combined.
Pour batter into prepared baking pan, bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Remove from oven. Cool on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan; serve warm.
