Creation of New Jobs

Poverty reduction in the coastal region is an important goal of the UW-UPE Project and its Outreach Program. It will be realized through professional training and education of disadvantaged population, community managers and city officers so they will be better prepared for IDZ-related occupations and for planning greater integration of the local population with the coastal economy.

The Program will initiate the pilot incubation center of small and micro-enterprises in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan area. This incubation initiative will allow poor township inhabitants to lean how to start and run their own businesses and cerate new jobs on self-sustaining basis. Collaboration with and support of the local government, Coega Development Corporation and other government agencies and commercial entities in Port Elizabeth will be crucial in achieving these objectives.
