The establishment of the University of Port Elizabeth Marine Affairs and Outreach Program will have a positive impact for the environment and economy of the East Cape Province, Port Elizabeth, and its population.
The Project will increase capability of the University of Port Elizabeth for solving maine and coastal environmental, economic, and social problems arising from the planned construction of the Coega Industrial development Zone (IDZ) and large deep-water harbor some 14 miles from Port Elizabeth.
