Dropdown Menu Test: Son of Suckerfish
This is one of several dropdown menus tested on Terrill Thompson's Dropdown Menus Test Page.
Description
This page uses Son of Suckerfish.
To exit the menu, press tab again and you should land safely in this paragraph.
Observations
- Improves Suckerfish for screen reader users. Menus are positioned off-screen with left:-999em rather than hidden with display:none; and they become visible with left:auto rather than display:block. This method means the full menu system is accessible to screen readers at all times—it's just a nested list.
- Unfortunately, keyboard users still can't trigger the dropdowns. In fact, accessibility is arguably even worse for keyboard users, because users can tab through the sub-menus, but the sub-menus don't become visible so users can't see where their focus has gone.
