Fri Aug 21 11:36:00 PDT 1998 - Using email and interactive discussion formats can increase student-teacher and student-student communication; in particular, it might be helpful to have students submit outlines of their arguments for the critique of the prof and their peers before writing their paper. This would facilitate discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of their position before they put it in a formal setting (a brief/paper), and enable them to work out some of the problems inherent in their position or argument in a constructive way. Using a class web page that would require them to do on-line research on legal topics, then collaborate with their collegues, would engage them in active and participatory learning as well. At this point, the Web features of the course would have to be fairly limited b/c of time and ability, but in the future it could become an integral part of the course.
