Director, Engineering Communication Program, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, August 2008 - present

Plan and supervise the two technical communication courses (HCDE 231 and HCDE 333) that serve undergraduates in the College of Engineering. Support and mentor teaching assistants: plan and lead fall TA orientation; conduct weekly TA meetings; conduct classroom observations; review and provide feedback to TAs on their grading approaches and teaching evaluations; and provide an electronic forum for access to teaching materials and exchange of ideas among TAs. Refine course materials; manage enrollment, facilities, and supplies; communicate and coordinate with the academic advisers and faculty in the College of Engineering; and maintain involvement with the ABET-related activities of the College.

Worked on development of a new and innovative curriculum for an advanced technical writing and oral presentation course that will be linked to senior capstone design courses in multiple engineering departments. Conducted weekly TA meetings for the TC 333 instructors during autumn 2007.

Managed the Engineering Writing Center (EWC): provided tutor training and support, conducted weekly seminars on peer tutoring, set and maintained the EWC schedule of operation; and updated and maintained the EWC's Web site. Assisted the Director of the Engineering Communication Program with Teaching Assistant orientation and curriculum development.

Teaching Assistant, College of Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, September 2005 - June 2007.

Taught Advanced Technical Writing and Oral Presentation (TC 333) to engineering and environmental health undergraduates. This course is intended to prepare students to be effective writers and presenters during their academic life and in the engineering workplace beyond. Also created and presented seminars on the use of visuals in oral presentation to students in the College of Forest Resources.

Owner and Chief Financial Officer, Mobrand Biometrics, Inc., Vashon Island, WA, 1990 - 2005.

Owned and operated an environmental consulting firm. Served as chief financial officer/chief operations officer—had primary responsibility for corporate taxes, cash flow, payroll, pension, budget planning, establishment of billing rates, contract negotiation and administration, human resources, and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Designed and maintained an Access-based time management system; worked with programmers and developers to design interfaces and conduct usability tests for software tools and Web applications; authored user documentation, co-authored and edited technical proposals, reports, and presentations; and maintained the corporation’s website.
