Mapache is an online mapping tool focusing on Central America as a region. It is the result of an all-volunteer effort from the CAEE/ACEA group, the first Geo-CAEE product. See the Mapache page for more information.
These are the applications that we have developed, and here you can read documentation for GIS data used.
Regional ecosystems and land cover. What is the extent of forests across Central America? What about savannas and agricultural areas? Do different datasets agree? Is the extent of forests and other vegetation types related to natural features like topography, and to population centers? What does the land look like from space from one day to the next and between seasons? This application brings together a variety of relevant datasets to address these questions.
Experimental version. Here we are testing some new implementations. Currently we are looking into remote connections to species distribution from GBIF, and real-time fire hotspot maps from the UMD Web Fire Mapper.

Ecosistemas regionales y cobertura de la tierra. ¿Cual es la extensión de bosques a lo largo de America Central? ¿De sabanas y áreas agrícolas? ¿Hay diferencias entre los diferentes datos? ¿Hay relación entre la extensión de bosques y otros tipos de vegetación, y características naturales como la topografía, o centros poblados? ¿Cual es la apariencia de la superficie terrestre desde el espacio de un día a otro y de una estación a otra? Esta aplicación reúne una variedad de datos relevantes para abordar estas preguntas.
Versión Experimental/Pruebas. Aquí estamos probando unas implementaciones nuevas. Actualmente estamos investigando conecciones remotas a distribuciones de especies del GBIF, y mapas de incendios (puntos calientes) del UMD Web Fire Mapper.
