{"id":29532,"date":"2022-06-03T12:49:31","date_gmt":"2022-06-03T19:49:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/?p=29532"},"modified":"2022-06-03T13:02:24","modified_gmt":"2022-06-03T20:02:24","slug":"sara-shum-receives-gillette-award-for-publication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staff.washington.edu\/twentzel\/wordpress\/sara-shum-receives-gillette-award-for-publication\/","title":{"rendered":"Sara Shum Receives Gillette Award for Publication"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sara-shum.jpg\" alt=\"Sara Shum\" width=\"200\" \/><strong>Sara Shum <\/strong>\u201821, a PhD graduate from UWSOP\u2019s Department of Pharmaceutics, has been chosen as a recipient of the 2021 Gillette Award for the last chapter of her dissertation, which has been published in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) as a paper titled \u201cPredicting Maternal-Fetal Disposition of Fentanyl Following Intravenous and Epidural Administration Using Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic Modeling\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The James R. Gillette Award is presented each year by The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) for two outstanding papers published in Drug Metabolism and Disposition, one award in each broad category, a) Drug Metabolism and b) Disposition and Pharmacokinetics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am grateful for the recognition of the significance and the scientific method to use PBPK modeling to study maternal-fetal disposition, an understudied area in pharmaceutical research,\u201d Sara said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Gillette award is not only a recognition of our work but also [<strong>Dr. Nina Isoherranen\u2019s<\/strong>] mentorship to build me up as a true pharmacokineticist. I am deeply grateful to her and my dissertation committee\u2014<strong>Dr. Danny Shen<\/strong>, <strong>Dr. Ed Kelly<\/strong>, <strong>Dr. Qingcheng Mao<\/strong>, and <strong>Dr. Gail
