NIA uses the K01 grant to support early-stage investigators pursuing career enhancement.<\/p>\n<p>Barthold looks forward to gaining skills and expertise in simulation modeling to study long term effects of health policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that diabetes and many other cardiovascular and metabolic conditions are related to dementia risk, and management of those conditions is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for dementia,\u201d he said. \u201cThis project will examine how modern health policies that influence management of chronic conditions can translate into long-term effects on both individual health and well-being, as well as societal welfare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barthold believes the success of this project can lead to future models that examine health policies yet to be conceived, in a range of disease areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will leave me well-positioned to lead an independent research program that influences future policy by identifying how patient costs and access to care relate to long-term healthy aging and Alzheimer\u2019s disease and related dementias (ADRD),\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UWSOP Research Assistant Professor and CHOICE Faculty Fellow Douglas Barthold has been awarded a K01 grant from the National Institute of Aging (NIA) for his project titled, Long-term effects of today&#8217;s medical care access policies&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":28865,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[298],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-28861","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-choice-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.8 -
