For Abby Winter<\/strong>, the Plein Center\u2019s new Assistant Director of Outreach, a passion for health care comes honestly. In addition to her mother being a retired registered nurse, the Chicago native has had a lifelong love of chemistry, which ultimately steered her into the pharmacy field. (READ MORE)<\/p>\n

\u201cMy love of the profession has grown exponentially as I\u2019ve learned the many possible routes a pharmacy degree can take you,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd it has been sustained by the everchanging and continued growth of the profession, along with the opportunities I\u2019ve had to work with patients and students in varying capacities to ultimately positively impact patient care.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to accepting her new role, Abby worked for UW Medicine as a clinical pharmacist, but her passion for academia compelled her to look for opportunities to get involved with the School of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the job of Assistant Director for Outreach for the Plein Center opened up, I knew I could thrive in this position if given the chance,\u201d she said. \u201cThis role provides me with a great opportunity to blend my strengths of communication and empathy, my passion for patient care, and my love of meeting new people and making connections.\u201d In her new position, Abby will be working at the eight Seattle-area Era Living Retirement Communities to continue Plein\u2019s fruitful partnership and enhance the services provided by the UWSOP\u2019s faculty and students. \u201cI will work to find new and innovative ways for pharmacists to get involved at Era Living, with an ultimate focus on improving the health and quality of life of their residents,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019ll also be working with the other leaders in the Plein Center to keep our students engaged in research and education affiliated with Era Living. Additionally, I\u2019ll be working on preceptor training and development related to geriatric pharmacy and will contribute to teaching in the Plein Certificate in Geriatric Pharmacy, as well as other core content in the PharmD curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
