{"id":25801,"date":"2020-10-20T10:30:30","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T17:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/?p=25801"},"modified":"2022-12-06T10:44:22","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T18:44:22","slug":"bev-schaefer-receives-memorial-trailblazer-award-from-ncpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staff.washington.edu\/twentzel\/wordpress\/bev-schaefer-receives-memorial-trailblazer-award-from-ncpa\/","title":{"rendered":"Bev Schaefer Receives Memorial Trailblazer Award From NCPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UWSOP alumna<strong> Bev Schaefer<\/strong>, co-owner of Katterman\u2019s Sand Point Pharmacy in Seattle, has received the Sharlea Leatherwood Memorial Trailblazer Award from the National Community Pharmacists Association Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The Trailblazer Award \u2013 named in honor of Sharlea Leatherwood, former NCPA and NCPA Foundation president \u2013 recognizes an outstanding pharmacy owner whose practice has set the standard for the current and future generation of independent pharmacy owners.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-half wp-image-25802\" src=\"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/500X400-BEV-375x300.jpg\" alt=\"Bev Schaefer\" width=\"375\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staff.washington.edu\/twentzel\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/500X400-BEV-375x300.jpg 375w, https:\/\/staff.washington.edu\/twentzel\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/500X400-BEV-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/staff.washington.edu\/twentzel\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/500X400-BEV.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an incredible honor to be chosen as the inaugural recipient of this new award,\u201d said Schaefer. \u201cCommunity pharmacy is my passion and keeping our entire neighborhood healthy is my goal. I am always looking for ways pharmacy can be a resource for helping people lead healthy lives and I continue to make changes in my practice to meet that goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Named Distinguished Alumnus by the School in 2000, \u00a0Bev was presented with the UWSOP Alumni Legend Award earlier this year. In 2007, she was named NCPA Willard B. Simmons Community Pharmacist of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Katterman\u2019s Sand Point Pharmacy is an urban neighborhood pharmacy offering many patient care services, including immunizations of all kinds to all ages. Schaefer is a clinical community pharmacist with prescriptive authority for 30 legend drugs, including most drugs prescribed for use while traveling. In 2015, Cardinal Health chose Katterman\u2019s as their Retail Advantage award winner for the wide array of innovative travel services and goods offered in the pharmacy.<\/p>\n<p>Schaefer is a 40-year member of NCPA. She has served on many NCPA Steering Committees, provided numerous hours of continuing education to NCPA Annual Convention attendees, and mentored pharmacy students participating in the annual Good Neighbor Pharmacy NCPA Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition.<\/p>\n<p>With Schaefer\u2019s leadership, Katterman\u2019s Sand Point Pharmacy continues to blaze trails, providing appointment-based patient care services, educating customers about smart choices for long-term health, and helping people embrace a healthier lifestyle.
