Congratulations to our PharmD students, Michael Sporck<\/strong>, \u201820, Eunice Kim<\/strong>, \u201820, Hanna Kleiboeker<\/strong>, \u201820 and Erin Ichinotsubo<\/strong>, \u201821, who won first place<\/strong> at the highly competitive Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Foundation 19th<\/sup> Annual National Student Pharmacist Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Competition. The team’s advisors were UWSOP faculty\u00a0David Veenstra <\/strong>and\u00a0Pete Fullerton. John Watkins <\/strong>of Premera served as their external advisor.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extraordinarily proud of Erin, Eunice, Hanna, and Michael for their win at this year\u2019s National AMCP P&T competition. The National P&T is one of the toughest competitions student pharmacists can go through. After months of studying and hard work, the team emerged at the top of a record number of competitors. Congratulations to the team on their outstanding achievement and our thanks to their advisors, Dave, Pete, and John for supporting the team.\u201d\u2014Sean D. The Competition is an annual team event that provides an immersive experience in effective formulary review and management. The awards were presented March 28 at the AMCP Foundation Awards Ceremony, held during the AMCP Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.<\/p>\n

This year the competition was exceptional with a record 67 schools of pharmacy nationwide participated in the Competition.\u00a0Eight national finalists advanced to the live finals, where a panel of judges simulated a P&T Committee on March 26 at the AMCP Annual Meeting.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe effort and energy invested by all of our competitors was evident in the depth of reasoning and professionalism displayed locally and at the national finals,\u201d said Paula J. Eichenbrenner, MBA, CAE, AMCP Foundation Executive Director. \u201cCompetitors were supported in this rigorous journey by many dedicated faculty advisors, Competition coordinators, AMCP student chapter leaders, and volunteer judges.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

P&T Competition teams work through a case study using a product dossier in the AMCP Format for Formulary Submissions<\/em>. Students evaluate the body of evidence on the study drug and comparators, assess value, and develop a monograph as they determine a recommendation for formulary placement and prepare an oral summary.<\/p>\n

The study drug for the 2019 P&T Competition was TYMLOS\u00ae (abaloparatide) injection, indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture. The AMCP Foundation thanked manufacturer Radius Health, Inc., for facilitating use of this dossier and Dymaxium for hosting the Competition platform on AMCP eDossier.<\/p>\n
