We have an established graduate program in pharmaceutical outcomes research and policy (PORPP). The department supports general and specialized pharmacy residencies, and research fellowships in select areas of pharmacotherapeutics.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Washington is a recognized leader or has demonstrated strengths in the following areas.<\/p>\n<h3>Innovative training programs in institutional and community pharmacy practice, notably:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Geriatric Pharmacy including the Certificate Program in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice<\/li>\n<li>Pioneering effort in the development of community pharmacy residency<\/li>\n<li>Training in community-based health screening and state-wide certification in provision of immunization and emergency contraception<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacy Management Certificate Program (in collaboration with the School of Business)<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacy ownership\/entrepreneurship workshops and coursework<\/li>\n<li>Biomedical Regulatory Affairs Certificate Program through UW Extension<\/li>\n<li>The innovative \u201cFix-the-Law\u201d project in teaching pharmacy students that promotes student participation in the improvement and reform of state pharmacy laws<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Graduate training and research in pharmaceutical outcomes and policy, with specific recognition as:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A leading center for the economic evaluation of pharmacogenetic and other diagnostic innovations, as well as related policy issues<\/li>\n<li>A major participant in federal and regional government-funded studies of medication prescribing errors, and in developing solutions through health systems technology enhancement<\/li>\n<li>An influential voice in pharmaceutical risk-benefit analysis in both industry and regulatory sectors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Pharmacotherapeutics research in the following areas:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Clinical Pharmacokinetics<\/li>\n<li>Immunosuppressive drug therapy<\/li>\n<li>Maternal-fetal pharmacology<\/li>\n<li>Women\u2019s health and medications<\/li>\n<li>Drug-drug and herb-drug interactions<\/li>\n<li>Anticancer drugs and pain medications<\/li>\n<li>Antiepileptic drug therapy<\/li>\n<li>Medication safety in geriatrics patients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pharmacy faculty is responsible for teaching the practice-related portion of the professional pharmacy or PharmD curriculum.
