{"id":34689,"date":"2026-06-01T12:45:29","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T19:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/?page_id=34689"},"modified":"2026-06-02T16:12:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T23:12:17","slug":"nelson-mendenhall-summer-scholars-program-nmp","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staff.washington.edu\/twentzel\/wordpress\/programs\/undergraduate-education\/nelson-mendenhall-summer-scholars-program-nmp\/","title":{"rendered":"Nelson-Mendenhall Summer Scholars Program (NMP)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"su-pullquote su-pullquote-align-right\">\u201cThe journey into research was just as impactful as the experience itself\u2014it taught me resilience and how to grow.\u201d\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>Begun in 2024, the <strong>Nelson-Mendenhall Summer Scholars Program (NMP)<\/strong> offers funded research opportunities for undergraduate students from two- and four-year colleges and universities to conduct hands-on research with faculty at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy.<\/p>\n<p>Our researchers address critical challenges in human health\u2014from discovering new therapeutics to improving medication safety, access, affordability, and effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>NMP Scholars spend 10 weeks working alongside graduate students, research scientists, and UW faculty on projects ranging from developing an HIV vaccine or new dementia treatments, to understanding how medications affect fetal development, to advancing safer therapies for brain injuries and cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about our School\u2019s diverse research areas here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/medchem\/\">Department of Medicinal Chemistry<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/pharmaceutics\/\">Department of Pharmaceutics<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/pharmacy\/\">Department of Pharmacy<\/a>, which also houses the <a href=\"https:\/\/sop.washington.edu\/choice\/\">Comparative Health Outcomes, Policy, and Economics (CHOICE) Institute<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We welcome applications from all undergraduate students, including those from communities historically underrepresented in STEM.
