Awarded to the Project VACCINATE partners in the Partnerships with other Health Care Providers and Public Health category by the American Pharmacists Association.<\/p>\n

2015: Pharmacist Champion Award<\/h4>\n

I2P2 Clinical Endowed Professor Don Downing was named Pharmacist Champion by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).<\/p>\n

2015: UWSOP PharmD student wins NCPA Award<\/h4>\n

PharmD student, James Lin, received the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Outstanding Student Member of the Year award. James is a strong advocate for the important role independent pharmacies play in communities.<\/p>\n

2015: NCPA Business Plan Award<\/h4>\n

A student team from UWSOP finishes in the top 10 nationally in the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition. Team members include Donald Backus, Susie Gannaw, James Lin, Sarah Buterbaugh. They created a business plan to for Mercury PharmaCare Services offers consulting pharmacy services to retirement communities, specifically assisted living facilities. The students presented a poster at the annual NCPA conference. UW has consistently had a student team represented in the top 10 NCPA Business Plan awards.<\/p>\n

A student team from UWSOP finishes in the top 10 nationally in the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Pruitt-Schutte Student Business Plan Competition. Team members include Simeon Roth, Kyle Sullivan, David Yiu, and James Lin. Led by I2P2 Clinical Endowed Professor Don Downing, the team created a business plan for Fairhaven Pharmacy, a pharmacy with a strong UW legacy, near Bellingham, Washington. “Working on this project made me more motivated than I already was to own my own community pharmacy one day,” reflected Lin.<\/p>\n

2014: Felicia Stewart Award for Lifetime Achievement in Emergency Contraception<\/h4>\n

Don Downing is presented with the Felicia Stewart Award for Lifetime Achievement in Emergency Contraception for his advocacy in increasing patient access to care provided by pharmacists. Nine states now allow pharmacists to prescribe emergency contraception. Don worked for many years to expand access to pharmacy services in Native American communities. He was instrumental in testing pharmacy access to EC through collaborative practice agreements between pharmacists and physicians, and moving this strategy from concept to practice. The experience gained through pharmacy access projects was key to establishing the safety and appropriateness of providing EC over the counter. “When the idea was first proposed in the mid-1990s, Don immediately saw the critical importance of easy EC access to women\u2019s health and was undeterred by the potentially disruptive politics around EC. He has consistently been an EC advocate and his history of progressive work to strengthen and expand the scope of practice of pharmacists to increase access to health services and products gave him both the platform and the voice to bring his pharmacist colleagues along,” lauded the Native American Women’s Health Education Resource Center (NAWHERC).<\/p>\n

2010: UW School of Pharmacy named winner of AACP\u2019s Transformative Community Service Award<\/h4>\n

In November 2010, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy announced that the UW School of Pharmacy would receive this national award. This honor recognizes the School for exceptional community programs that address unmet community needs and for being an example of social responsiveness. I2P2 was instrumental in facilitating several of the programs highlighted in the award.<\/p>\n

2009: I2P2 co-directors mentor student team that wins national business plan competition<\/h4>\n

As part of the School of Pharmacy’s Business Plan Development class, taught by I2P2 co-directors Don Downing and Jackie Gardner, a group of students wrote a business plan and entered it in the National Community Pharmacy Association\u2019s Pruitt-Schutte Business Plan Competition. With guidance from Downing and Gardner and I2P2 support, the students won first place nationally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
