Notes:
Beginning Fall Qtr ‘97 we will authenticate users in our public labs using a modified Samba service that authenticates against our Kerberos database. The service will clear existing state from lab machines as users login/logout from both Windows and Macintosh systems.
The incorporation of certificate and IMAP support in Netscape Communicator and MS Internet Explorer/Outlook Express has allowed us to begin testing the use of digital signatures and encryption for electronic mail. We have done some similar experimenting in the past using PGP and Pine, but the wide spread availability of these browsers likely means that these implementations will be forced upon us.
