third of three daughters of Minoru Yasui (b. October 19, 1916 in Hood River Oregon -- d. November 12, 1986; buried in Hood River, Oregon) and True Shibata

graduated from South High School, Denver, Colorado, Class of 1971

studied at the University of Colorado (Fine Arts); University of Southern California (Cinema); University of Wisconsin-Madison (Comparative Literature and CommunicationArts)

moved to Seattle, Washington in 1985

Writer-in-residence and reader, Hedgebrook Cottages for Women Writers on Whidbey Island, Washington

visited San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico in 1990, and in 1991 moved there, where she currently lives

playwright "Unvanquished," performed in 1990 at the Annex Theatre, about the 'relocation' of Japanese Americans during World War II

winner of 1992 Multicultural Playwright's Award
