Hi there Chris. I've had a hard time keeping up with Write6x6 posts the last two weeks, but I'm getting caught up today. I enjoyed this post despite any melancholy, even because of it. We are in a historical moment that has drained so many of us of our energy and zest as we've focused on survival in many ways. I'm here for giving ourselves a break. As Alan mentioned, this post from you is a little sliver of gold. One of my twitter pals remarked that after a random person shouted from a car for him to turn around and look at a rainbow, he has recommitted to pointing at rainbows. Here's that tweet: https://twitter.com/MattRKay/status/1514731463517868034?s=20&t=tOVe53NKxw94uNNMzz-1qQ

Oh Chris, I too share many of your feelings. I miss the optimism of the "golden" days and wonder what combination of self, profession, politics and looming specters of the covid+climate change are creating unease. Yet, as @cogdog notes, there are glints of humanity and good to be had out there, just enough to not lose all hope...

"Nice post" as they used to comment, the blog comment equivalent of a "like"button.

I wish I could reach into a bag for an answer, much of the fatigue your describe I feel too. In hindsight, the bag of gold seems naively optimistic, but you could never have convinced me of it yet.

What I can reach for is that there are still flakes, chunks, maybe entire ziploc bags of gold or gold color substance out there. I find them in curiously links, accidental clicks, etc. But those shiny bits are also surrounded by larger bags of poop.

And here the analogy slides down the hole.

It's a shimmer of gold to see you post here, so rather than bemoan all the undones, the teardowns, I prefer to celebrate every glimmer like this as a net positive.

You still got the eye for gold, it just takes a bit more squinting.
