How I like to spend my time

Much of what I enjoy doing involves water. Above the water, under the water, on frozen water. It's a good thing that I live in the Puget Sound area. Most of what I love to do is in my back yard.

Sailing

Washington Yacht Club

Year round I sail at the Washington Yacht Club, the student sailing club at the University of Washington.

I teach a keelboat sailing class for the Yacht Club. The Reading assignment and Course outline are available here, as well as Crew Assignements.

My Boats

I own a Hobie cat 16, I used to race during the summer, but other sailing activities have kept me away.

On December 24, 1998, I bought Rowena, a Yankee Clipper 41'.

Windsurfing

From Memorial Day weekend (AKA Opening Day of Gorge Season) thru the end of the summer I spend my weekends in THE GORGE.

Scuba Diving

I have been Diving since 1994. Most of my diving has been here in Puget Sound area. One of my favorite dives was at Sunrise Beach in Gig Harbor, where we saw octopus and wolf eel. Frequent diving spots include the Edmonds Underwater park, the underwater park at Keystone and the pipeline at Alki. My exotic dives have been limited to a few dives in the Tobago Keys, though I must admit that the snorkling that I did was as good or better than the diving.

Skiing

As a Northwest native, I have taken to casual skiing. I break out the skies several times a year and make the trek up to the mountains. In a good year I also find time for a ski trip to Whistler or some other ski destination. Every year, I say to myself "I'm really going to ski more this year"

Gardening

Sometimes it is tough living in the city. There just is not enough space for my garden, and the building next door is casting a shadow on my tomatoes. For all the challenges city gardening has provided, I have still managed to have a garden, even when it ment that I was going to have to carry 500 pounds of dirt up to my second floor appartment. Now if I could only get my zuccini to grow!
My recient attempts to grow tomatoes and peppers at the dock at Shilshole have proved to be nearly fruitless. I now have a community P-Patch in central Ballard.
