HEPPS Employee Type/ Job Class

Deriving Category from Employee Type

Each appointment in HEPPS is defined by a Job Class code. From a Job Class code you can determine a number of things including Appointment Title, Employee Type and Salary Range. From the Employee type you can then derive the category of the individual. 
 The following employee types get a category of staff(4):
      Code        Name

      B           Bargaining Unit Staff
      C           Classified Staff
      D           Hall Health Physicians
      E           Professional Staff
      H           Hourly Staff in Classified Titles
      I           ICA Contract Staff
      P           Print Plant Staff
      S           Stipend Recipients
      T           Temporary Staff

 The following employee types get a category of faculty(5):
      F           Faculty
      N           Courtesy Faculty
      R           Retired Faculty (emeritus & supplemental pay)

 The following employee types get a category of student staff(14):
      G           Graduate Student Employee
      U           Undergraduate Student Employee

 The following emp types get a category of affiliate employee(15):
      V           Affiliate Employee

Determining Employee Type from Job Class

To convert from job class to employee type, you can look this up in HEPPS. To do this:
  1. First choose option "6. CONTROL FILE MENU".
  2. Next choose option "3. Job class search/list"
  3. Now place the job class code in the field next to "SELECT JOB CLASS:" and hit send.
  4. Finally you should see a list of Job Classes. The first in the list will be the one you searched for. The fourth column over will be EMP TYPE, which can then be converted to category.
