Joint use agreements can "unlock the gates" of publicly funded facilities and privately owned property for use by organizations who aim to increase access to healthy foods and physical activities for community residents. Joint or shared use agreements can fall on a continuum from informal handshake agreements to formal written contracts. Getting agreements in writing can make the joint use more sustainable in the long run, but each of the joint use examples in this newsletter has clearly benefitted the health of Washington communities.
