Subject: Service horse in Oregon?
I read a news article in the Sunday paper about an Oregon teen who can't
drive because of eyesight problems. She uses a horse to go places, but
the local police tell her she can't ride a horse in city limits. The
city council is working to change the law, but the young lady is
determined to keep her independence now.
Some horses really have been service animals for centuries, being able
to assist a rider when there has been a problem that disables the
rider. I don't think every horse is suited as a service animal, but
this horse seems to have the know-how.
I hope the family uses this idea of the horse as a service animal,
because this teen can more reasonably access public places because of
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
