AAUP Action Report (12/3/02)

At its 12/3 meeting the UW-AAUP executive committee established the following action agenda:

1)PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH: AAUP will write to the Board of Regents expressing concern as to the composition and intention of the presidential search committee. We are concerned that only two faculty members are represented on a committee of fifteen (along with 3 administrators, 3 regents, 2 businessmen, a former HEC board member, a grad student, a staff member, alumni representative, and the ASUW President.)

2) TENURE EROSION: AAUP will urge the Faculty Senate to publish an annual report of the "State of the Faculty," monitoring the distribution of tenure track and tenure ineligible positions as well as data on faculty salaries.

3) LEGISLATIVE OUTREACH: AAUP will develop a database of faculty willing to contact legislators during the upcoming budget session and a committee will work with the Faculty Senate legislative reps to coordinate an outreach compaign.

4) BUDGET CUT PREPARATIONS: AAUP will encourage faculty to take an early and active role in governance processes relating to budgeting. With serious cuts looming, college councils and college budget committees should be consulting with deans about budget estimates and developing procedures for handling funding reductions.
