Garden Life I love to watch plants grow, from tiny seeds or fragile, $15.00, "d2" Heronswood starts to specimens worthy of attention. I do have a design plan, all laid out on graph paper with circles representing trees and shrubs. It's all about good bones, winter interest and contrasting foliage! Flowers should be icing on the cake, an after-thought really. One shouldn't plant a single huechera until the garden structures, like pathways and patios are build. And when color is introduced it should be in great, sweeping swaths! Right. Any how, I love roses, primulas, herbs and fruit. I favor warm, sunset color schemes in the back and an evolving yellow, blue, orange and purple scheme in front. Somehow my area for abandoned, orphaned and cast-off pink plants gets larger every year. I hate plastic, cutworms, square edges and people who butcher trees.
