What you will need: The items below in bold with an asterisk are required for this class. If you don't have these items then you are not taking the class. I'm serious, it's part of the deal.

Personal equipment - you should have this equipment the first week. It could be cold and rainy:
· Foul weather gear: rain jacket, rain pants, hat, and gloves *
· Flashlight *
· A writing instrument *

Books - because reading assignments start at the first week you should purchase these books as quickly as possible so you can start reading them before the first class.
Annapolis Book of Seamanship , * October, 99 (by John Rousmaniere, ISBN 0-684-85420-1
Cruising Under Sail * (WYC cruising manual) I can also email this to you.

Other Good stuff, optional for this class but necessary for a KB Skipper
· COLREGS The Rules of the Road - International Regulations for Avoiding Collisions
· Dividers, parallel rulers, and compass

· VHF handheld radio
· Strobe safety light

We will meet Thursdays at 17:30 (5:30 pm) at the dock. After successful completion of the course you will take a written and practical test and get your Novice Keelboat rating. With this rating you can take out any of our three club keelboats on Lake Washington and Lake Union . Before the first and subsequent classes you are expected to do the required reading.

Notice that you have to take and pass the written dingy skipper test before the sixth class on May 15th. You can take the test at the club office:

Foul weather gear and other nautical items are available at Fisheries Supply ( 1900 N. Northlake Way ) or various places on-line. Show your WYC card and get a discount at Fisheries Supply. Non-marking boat shoes are good to have, especially if you are going to be joining other club sailors on their nice, clean sloops, ketches, and yawls.
