I started the MLIS program at the University of Washington in Summer 2003, as part of the last Evening Program cohort. Now it's over five years later and I still don't know what kind of librarian I want to be. And I am still not really a good student.

Which is perfectly okay, as you will soon see.

Because of the iSchool, I've been able to explore many, dare I say, passions. I love working with kids rather than hating it, as I did before. I love teaching -- something the Sarah of five years ago would have found particularly unbelievable. I'm even happy working with undergraduates, who are the patrons I serve at my current job.

There are other seemingly impossible personal developments I've made, too. I feel confident enough to contact any organization I'm interested in and ask to volunteer there -- which perhaps ought to lead to some freelancing, I'm thinking.  And while I don't have my eye on any professional positions, I have a much better sense of what kinds of mysterious not-exactly-library jobs are out there.

I am finished. The iSchool enriched my life, I'm satisfied with where I am professionally, I learned tons, and I'm proud of my work. And happy.
