23-aug-2001 revision 3. sat22er.txt, train22er.txt and both22er.txt These will produce a modified version of autostar firmware 22Er. It is compatible with the v22Er dbase.rom file, dated 7/5/2001 (July 5th). At power-up, it identifies itself as 22r (instead of 22E) In Setup>Statistics, it identifies itself as 22rR (instead of 22Er) Features: (a) Under Setup>Telescope>Train Drives, there are now four new EDIT screens: Edit Az Train, Edit Alt Train, Edit RA Train, Edit Dec Train. The first two will display and edit the TRAINING values used at the next power-up. After editing, the new values are not seen by all sections of the code until you -do- cycle the power. Do NOT use PARK for the first power-cycle. The second two (RA andDec) will display the Training values stored during the last time you Parked the telescope. Editing them will have no effect. (b) Under Satellites, there is now the ability to edit the AOS Altitude. It appears as a function scroll-down from Sat>Delete, and scroll-up from Sat>Edit. The value displayed/entered won't be -exact-, but close. To make room for the above, the following functions have been removed from the menus: Eyepiece Suggest, Owner Address Street/City/State/Zip. You will still have a text-entry ability under "Owner Address" itself. (c) This version will also start automatically tracking a satellite when the count-down timer reaches zero, and displays the predicted AOS time to the second. Insert four (4) semicolons (;) into the satt22er.txt or both22er.txt files to remove these features. To install: (0) You *must* be running at least Updater A2.4, and already have the v22Er Autostar.rom and dbase.rom files in your Updater's Ephemerides folder. (1) Fetch the "patcher.bat" and "AStarpat.exe" files from the links at Mike's site under http://www.weasner.com/etx/autostar/as_patches.html (2) "Save Links as..." the above two files to some directory (ProgramFiles\Meade ??) (2a) COPY the AStarPat.exe file to ProgramFiles\Meade\Autostar\AutostarUpdate\Ephemerides (2b) remove from that folder any copies of "autostar.rom_bak" (3) COPY your existing autostar.rom and dbase.rom files (dated 7/5/2001) from ProgramFiles\Meade\Autostar\AutostarUpdate\Ephemerides to someplace safe (ProgramFiles\Meade is a good spot) (4a) if you wish to NOT have the AOS-to-the-second patch, and/or automatic satellite tracking when the count-down reaches zero, insert semicolons where indicated in both22er or sat22er. (4) drag-and-drop either "both22er.txt", or your choice of "sat22er.txt" and/or "train22er.txt" onto the "patcher.bat" icon. (5) the above step will modify the autostar.rom file in your ProgramFiles\Meade\Autostar\AutostarUpdate\Ephemerides folder. (6) Connect your telescope to the autostar. Connect the 505 cable from the hole in the bottom of the AUTOSTAR (not the scope) to the PC's rs232 COM port. (7) power up the telescope/autostar. Answer the time/date/daylight questions. (8) start the Autostar Updater on the PC. (9) the Autostar will automatically switch to "Downloading..." mode. (10) on the Autostar Updater's main screen, click the [send software] button. (11) If you wish to retain your current User Bodies, do so when asked. (12) The actual transfer will take about 35 minutes. I **strongly** recommend walking away from your PC during that time... any PC activity (browsing, email, editing) has the potential of disturbing the download. (13) At the end of the download, the Autostar will beep and re-initialize. With any luck at all, it'll show "22r" on that screen... (only if you install "both" or "train"... "satt" alone does not change the version number) (14) Explore. All the usual warnings apply: although i have tested this on my own system, its performance may vary on yours. The patches shouldn't harm anything, and you can always reload Meade's original code by copying the backup copy from step (3) back into the Ephemerides folder and re-Updating. enjoy --dick rseymour@wolfenet.com
