Collections Database
Work Group

This group is investigating funding sources necessary to staff a full-time position at the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation to locate all collections from systematic surveys and excavations conducted in Washington State. For various reasons, collections from past projects are often difficult to locate, though largely resulting from the lack of a tracking process in years past. Laura Phillips is the point of contact for this group, so please feel free to contact her with questions or suggestions.

The group is currently collecting feedback on the recently completed Washington Archaelogical Collections Management Project Draft Proposal (see below) created to address funding for development of a statewide collections database through creation of a 2-year full-time position. Please review the document and submit feedback to Peter Lape or Stephenie Kramer.

The other documents listed below were submitted by Angela Neller, Curator at the Wanapum Cultural Heritage Center and member of the SAA's Committee on Museums, Collections and Curation. The SAA report supports our current efforts in Washington and provides other potential areas of focus for the future.
