Curation Guidelines
Work Group

This work group is assigned the task of drafting a document to address questions concerning curation in Washington State. The draft guidelines discussed at the May 10th meeting (see link below) were determined to be too detailed in scope. Representatives at the meeting felt that as various agencies and repositories have specific curation requirements already in place, a more general document presenting proper curation methods was needed. With that in mind, the group met in Summer 2004 to develop a draft document (see below).

At the October 2007 meeting the work group was assigned the revised task of compiling a list of requirements repositories must meet to comply with regulations specified under the Curation of Federally-Owned and Administered Archaeological Collections (36 CFR Part 79). Group participants felt that the federal regulations allowed for the individual curation requirements created by individual repositories, negating the need for general state-wide curation guidelines. The work group completed draft requirements on June 15, 2008.
