Looking for GeneticTools materials?

The original Genetic Tools website may still be available -- feel free to check there first, as it offers a more comprehensive range of materials -- but it will soon be offline while we search for ongoing funding and informational support. In the meantime, please feel free to use the resources we've made available in PDF form on this site.

This website is designed for use by educators involved in teaching about genetics in primary care settings. It is open to the public and may be used by anyone; however, please be aware that this site is not intended to provide medical advice. We are unable to respond to questions about medical care, diagnosis, or treatment.

If you are looking for more detailed information about a specific genetic condition, or you wish to find a laboratory or genetic professional near you, please visit the Gene Tests website.

Teaching Cases

We have written 41 cases that illustrate how genetic conditions and questions arise in primary care practice. Each case provides learning objectives; identifies family history issues and red flags; reviews clinical care issues, risk assessment, and testing; and discusses the relevant ethical, social, legal, and cultural issues. Links to other resources are also provided.
