Organizations (and other things) I'm involved with
- C&C Security Infrastructure Team
(SIT)
The SIT works on coordinating and designing security services to
support distributed computing at UW.
- Middleware Architecture Council for Education
(MACE)
Formerly the "Internet2 Middleware Initiative".
A project to analyze and improve infrastructure services
throughout US higher education. Current work is focusing on
campus-scale identification, authentication, and authorization
services. I am currently Chair of MACE. This is a subset of the Internet2 project.
- Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
The organization responsible for development of Internet
protocol standards. I follow, and attempt to contribute to,
working groups on:
- LDAP Extensions (
ldapext)
- Common Authentication Technology (
cat)
- X.509 Public Key Infrastructure (
pkix)
- Transport-Layer Security (tls)
- Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL)
- Common Solutions Group (CSG)
An interest group of people who provide computing support for
25 or so large research universities, and some affiliated
consortia; a combination of CIOs, technical
managers, and architects. We meet, have workshops, and do
occasional projects.
- Network Applications Consortium (NAC)
An interest group of people who work for big companies (and a
few universities) who all have some combination of
"infrastructure", "security", "distributed", "enterprise",
"directory", and "architecture" in their job titles. We discuss
implementations of all of these things, write some papers, and
attempt to influence vendors to do The Right Thing.
