Making UW Web Services Accessible

The University of Washington is committed to providing access, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation in its services, programs, activities, education and employment for individuals with disabilities. As the World Wide Web becomes an increasingly essential means by which we carry out our mission of education, research, and service, we must assure that the information and systems we implement in this new technology work effectively for all who use them.

Official web sites of the University, including administrative, college, departmental, and class-related sites, should be designed to work effectively for persons with disabilities using current assistive or adaptive technologies.

We are not alone in setting this goal. Accessibility standards are being set throughout government, education, and business. Their experiences can guide our own efforts.

This important work will not only help meet the needs of the disabled, it will put the UW in a better position to deliver its services through information technologies as they change and diversify in the future.

This Web site summarizes how we can reach this important goal. The site will be kept up to date as new technologies develop and new legal requirements evolve. You are encouraged to check the site at the time of development of new web pages and periodically to assure that existing pages meet accessibility standards.
