- Federal Web sites are covered by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires they comply with specific accessibility standards.
- 508 does not apply directly to the UW.
- The Federal government's success in setting specific standards and meeting them on tens of thousands of sites have raised the bar on what is "reasonable."
- Many higher education institutions voluntarily comply with the 508 standards.
