Becky Smurr
“I allow myself to be led by intuition, letting the medium direct my exploration until a satisfying balance between reality and the imagined is reached. I attempt to think in terms of process, surface texture and color, as opposed to subject matter, to achieve this. The evident evolution of a piece – that is pencil marks, rough edges, and other imperfections – is of great importance to me. My hope is that this allows for deeper insight by the viewer into the creation my art, ultimately enhancing their enjoyment of it.”

This small collection of paper mosaics was inspired by a recent trip to Spain. Seeing first hand the work of such masters as Antoni Gaudi and Pablo Picasso, the changing landscape as we travelled cross country by train, the lively exuberance of the Spanish people, all contributed.
