Cory Doctorow points out here that BBC is distributing a version of the Real Player that comes without any spyware or egregious advertising. Haven't checked it out yet myself.
I've been looking into it, however, according to http://www.michaelbraly.com/archives/000180.html it does have some spyware ... just less than other versions.
