Juror Instructions

1. Your main role is to provide questions and comments that promote critical thinking among the presenters. In this way, the student presenters will forge a better paper and everyone is enriched.

2. The group projects are centered around analyzing and forecasting business picture for a high technology industry sector. At the end of each presentation, the students will present a suite of 3 or 4 scenarios.

The best questions prod students to clarify the connections between the data and their conclusions. Although technical questions are fair game, remember that in most cases, the presenters are business students and not scientists. They should be pushed to answer business questions.

Typical questions are: 1) Have you considered "this" in your forecast?; 2) Could you clarify how you came to this conclusion?; 3) What market growth do you forecast under that scenario?; 4) How do you account for the impact of factor X in making your conclusions?; 5) Your expert sources really lead you to believe this? Isn't that counter to what others are saying?; 6) Let's play with this scenario; what do you think happens if this group of companies counter with this strategic move?; 7) In making your conclusions, why didn't you segment your market further?

3. You do not have formal "judging" responsibilities. I want you to enjoy youself, while giving advice and intellectual stimulation to the students. I will privately and informally ask your overall opinion of the presentation(s), but really nothing more.
