Protects cells against the cytotoxic effect of rotavirus.
In a study in 50 children < 12yo hospitalized with severe rotavirus diarrhea randomized to nitazoxanide oral vs. placebo, the mean time to resolution of illness was sig. lower for nitazoxanide recipients (31h vs. 75h) (Lancet 368:124, 2006--JW)
