ANTERIOR ISCHEMIC OPTIC NEUROPATHY
- Ischemic infarction of disc; most common site in optic n.
for infarction (supplied by post. ciliary aa.)
- Part of diff. dx for vis. loss in anyone over 50
- Clin. pres: arcuate field loss, or altitudinal defect
(i.e., above a certain horiz level), or total vis. loss
- n.b. papilledema us. not accompanied by vis. loss
- Types: idiopathic (2? to systemic vasc. dis.),
non-arteritic, arteritic (e.g. giant cell arteritis)
- Px: "waxy pallor" of disc; different from
papilledema
