Some of my personal interests...

Backpacking, Hiking & Fishing
My husband and I in front of a large Douglas Fir on the trail to Trout Lake in 1995.
I love backpacking!!! I used to be just an avid day hiker, but the backpacking has become my favorite--camping out under the stars, getting into real wilderness areas, you name it! My conversion came when I backpacked the Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainer in 1996 and 1998 (this is a 96 mile hike, I had to quit in 1996 due to weather, and finished up the last 36 miles in 1998). It was beautiful, scenic and a great workout--we even saw a bear! I racked up the miles in 1998 with vists to Lakes Dorothy, Alaska, Talapus, Ollalie, Malachite, and Colchuck, as well as two Enchantment trips. Two great sites for backpacking are The Backpacker at: http://www.thebackpacker.com/ and Washington Trails Association at: http://www.wta.org/wta. FYI--the Washington Trails Association does most of the trail maintenance--join a trail work party to help them out! The also have a trip report board on their site that is really helpful for planning.
I also enjoy fishing, especially when backpacking in the wilderness. It's a great way to end the day and have a great dinner! Certain alpine lakes, especially ones that are hard to get to, often have trout that are worth the climb! (Somehow, I always manage to catch the biggest ones!)
Human Rights
One of my big concerns is Human Rights. I am an MSW student at the UW, and I have a personal dedication to helping people understand each other and avoid conflict. I am very interested in social change efforts, especially internationally. Link to Human Rights Info: http://www.hrweb.org
The Environment
Another concern of mine is the environment, especially on a global level. We only have one environment...why not preserve it? I'd personally like to breathe clean air and drink clean water, wouldn't you? My husband and I are both members of the Sierra Club. Check their site out at: http://www.sierraclub.org
