Nightlife: Tapas and the Festival of San Juan
On the night of Thursday, June 23rd there were crowds of people around bonfires everywhere. Word on the street was that this was in celebration of another saint: San Juan and mid-summer's eve. Funny since in Seattle we don't even start summer until July, really.

Anyway, lots of people jumped over these bonfires. Why? Why not, I guess. Especially when the drinks are flowing. :)

Another wacky aspect of the fires that we discovered was that you could write your sins on a piece of paper and throw them in the fire to be magically absolved. Heck, I figured I ought to cover my bases and since cataloging them all would have taken away from precious drinking time, I just wrote down: All sins, past, present, and future. Whoever is in charge up there, be he/she all-knowing, doesn't really need more detail.

Most other nights found us loitering in one "cafe bar" or another. Drinks and tapas. Then dinner somewhere. The seafood here was excellent. I thought octopus would be slimy but it was sooo good.

Here are Chris, Winnie, and Assaf.

Assaf again, Andy, and Sara.
Peter, Xavier, and Kay.
Brady, Peter, and Xavier.
Myself and Andy. Assaf in the background.
On the last night we scored some tables at this cafe bar right next to the cathedral. Cool, eh?
The dynamic duo just before I had to go back to the hotel to get my bags and catch my plane. Never thought a 6:30 am flight would mean having to leave the party early! :)

That's it! Hope you enjoyed this little taste of Santiago
